A Card for Mascara Oopsies

Is this what happen to you when you try to apply mascara perfectly? Don't worry it happens to all of us.

When applying mascara do you ever find it hard to get every single lash without ruining your whole look by one wrong move with that dangerous wand?

Well here is a trick from pros:

To ensure that every lash is coated with your mascara, use a business card or a index card to act as a protector  when applying mascara.

There are devices sold today that you can buy to help with this, but why spend $10- $20 when you can use a business card with no use.

First get an old sturdy business card, Measure it to fit your eye shape. This will ensure that there will be no space when applying the mascara.

Hold the card up to your eye, make sure its a snug fit and proceed with applying your mascara.

The Card can also be used to create a strong contour. Cut the card to fit your cheek bone and hold up to your face when ready to apply a contour, bronzer or blush.

If you are still experiencing messy mascara after using this business card trick, you may want to do your eye makeup first. If you make a mess you can use a water based makeup remover to clear any smudges. If your look is completed and you experience a small bit of mascara on your skin you can wait for it to dry then use clean mascara wand to remove the dry smudge. Doing this will not ruin the rest of your eye makeup.

Another trick is to allow the mascara to dry completely, then using a dry q-tip touch the

edge of the mascara mark and give it a flick, the mascara will loosen and flake off without

disturbing the rest of your makeup.

I hope these tips helped

Personal Touch on Makeup Brushes

If your a makeup artist, student, or just makeup lover and constantly working around people, whether clients, family, friends, students or other artists you want to be able to differentiate your kit and supplies from the other people working around you.

Many artists have different techniques in which they label their supplies. If you work for mac or a makeup company as large and popular as mac you know they are constantly busy and you have to work fast, consistent and be able to know your brushes from the person next to you.

A popular way to label your brushes without going to drastic measures is color coding. What I mean by this is you basically color the bottoms of your eye;face;lip makeup brushes with nail polish. The easiest way to do this is by using a nail polish, preferably a unique color in which you favor. I chose jade green, a OPI nail lacquer.

To color code your brushes, what you'll need:

Supplies:

  1. Tape( Any tape will do, even painters tape)
  2. Nail Polish(color you prefer)
  3. Towel
  4. Clean flat surface to lay towel and brushes during drying process

First, take any makeup brush or brush you are color coding. Tape about half an ench away from the end of the brush to create an empty space to apply the nail polish to.

Second, Paint the end of your brush. Preferable two coats. To ensure maximum color pay off. If you are using a pricey polish brand like OPI you may only need one coat.

Third, lie the brush on a rolled towel on a flat surface so that the brush has space to breathe and dry.

Once dry just remove the tape and you have yourself a labeled brush that way no one can claim your little investment(brush) as theirs.

P.s I would let the brush dry for about an hour, if you've applied more than one coat maybe two hours.

I hope that this post has educated you a little :)

Beauty Tip: Cleanse

Cleansing your skin is a very important part of any persons skincare routine. You typically should cleanse your skin morning and night.

I use a cream cleanser in the morning (neutrogena stress control cream power wash) and followed with a moisturizer, I use Embroylisse Lait Creme Concentrait. During the day you should apply a moisturizer that is right for your skin type, typically  an spf of 15 or higher is good, and you want to use this 30 min to an hour before you go outdoors.

If you wear makeup, Please remove your makeup at night. You never want to sleep in your makeup, not even the Bare Minerals makeup. When youre going to bed, your skin is going through a process of repairing itself. It would stop the process if dirty oily makeup is sitting on your face, not to mention clogging your pores.

I suggest an easy makeup remover wipe, which you can get anywhere from; dollar tree, walmart, cvs, walgreens, mac. You dont have to invest your money in a pricey cleansing oil or makeup removing tonic. A wipe would do just as good. I use Neutrogena Makeup removing wipes. I also use a makeup removing water based cleanser by Bioderma to remove any remaining makeup and eye makeup.

Makeup Removing Wipes

I hate having any makeup left on my face, which is why I use these two things. After I see that there is zero makeup residue on my skin I follow with my Clarisonic Mia + Pore Cleaning brush head and I use a foaming cleanser by Sheiseido. I choose this cleanser as my nightime cleanser because it foams like you've never seen and it gets rid of any excess oils and makeup without stripping your skin.

This is the perfect pair for me, I've been using this method of cleansing for a while now and it works for me. What works for me may not work for you. But its all about experimenting and please know your skin type when you are shopping for new skin care products. There could be an ingredient in something that is totally wrong for your skin and may cause a bad reaction. I've seen if before :/

Here are photos of my cleansing methods.

Todays Look: 50s Pin-up

The Pin up girl, is another name for a model who is visable everywhere you look, at lease during the  1950's. Pin-up girls are intended for displays such as magazines, posters, billboards etc. Pin-up girls may be models, fashion models, or actresses.

In todays world, many people can achieve the pin-up look, and it is constantly re-created. Even by those with beautiful tatoos covering there entire body e.g Kat Von D.

The Pin-up look is typically a flawless matte face, matte eyeshadows, black winged liner, and bold red lip. If you wish you can add a beauty mark, which was popular during the days of the pin up girl.

I chose the typical pin up look, and added 2 beauty marks.

Blonde Ambition

As you know, I do a makeup look almost everyday. For practice purposes primarily but also for experimentation purposes

Originally I was going for a cut crease look, created by a brown blended up to the brow bone, and using a mac pigment in vanilla with a homemade mixing medium, used from the combination of glycerin and water. I experimented several times with gel liners, first using a copper color, then a brown both by e.l.f cosmetics. I was happy with the overall eye look.

I used spice lip liner from mac on the lips, with a nars lipgloss in dolce vita. Spice and Dolce Vita were a perfect pair since they are both  nice rosy colors which gives a bitten lip look.

The Cheeks were contoured with taupe blush from mac, which is a pro product but you can order it whether a pro or not.

I polished off the look with a light dusting of Makeup Forever HD Translucent Powder.
